Our Research

Our research focuses on understanding how artificial intelligence can be deployed responsibly and effectively to benefit society. Working at the intersection of technology, ethics, and real world implementation, we collaborate with academic institutions, governments, and industry partners to study how AI can address global challenges while remaining aligned with human values. Through applied research and practical experimentation, we generate evidence and frameworks that help guide responsible AI development, support inclusive innovation, and ensure emerging technologies contribute positively to communities around the world

Areas of Research

Our current research explores two key areas: operationalizing Responsible AI in real development environments and expanding language inclusion through customized AI models. Our Responsible AI research examines how integrating ethical principles into AI design and engineering workflows affects development speed, system quality, and governance outcomes. In parallel, our Language Inclusion Research Project focuses on building customized language models for underrepresented and at risk languages such as Tuvaluan, Tokelauan, Kiribati, Cook Islands Māori, Niuean, and Samoan. Working with our technology partner TopSchool, we are developing AI powered education solutions trained on real language samples to preserve linguistic heritage while expanding access to modern digital learning tools
AI IMPACT PROJECT: MAPPING OPPORTUNITIES FOR AI IN THE GLOBAL SOUTH
The AI Impact Project is a joint research initiative between Aiforgood Asia and NELIS Global designed to understand how artificial intelligence can be applied to solve real world challenges in developing regions. The study focuses on the Global South, where social entrepreneurs are already working on the frontlines of issues such as education access, climate resilience, healthcare delivery, and economic inclusion. By gathering insights directly from these changemakers, the research ensures that AI solutions are grounded in practical needs rather than theoretical assumptions

OPERATIONALIZING RESPONSIBLE AI: FROM PRINCIPLES TO PRACTICE
This doctoral research, conducted through Golden Gate University with institutional support from Aiforgood Asia, investigates how ethical considerations influence the design, development, and deployment of AI systems within realistic organizational environments. As artificial intelligence becomes embedded in digital services, decision systems, and automated workflows, organizations face growing pressure to ensure that these technologies are deployed responsibly while maintaining performance

UNDERSTANDING THE ETHICAL OUTCOMES FOR  OPERATIONALIZING PRINCIPLES IN AI DEVELOPMENT
A variety of different ethical issues and potential outcomes of AI have led to an extensive yet somewhat ill-defined discourse surrounding the implementation of ethical principles in AI development. This lack of clarity has led to a need for a better understanding of the definitions of ethical principles and the connection they have to potentially negative outcomes. This paper aims to define the relationship between ethical principles and potential outcomes arising from the use or implementation of AI technologies.
